Art
The Hillcrest Fine Arts Program has a tradition of excellence. The goal of the Hillcrest art program is to instill a life-long love of art that is self-sustaining. We try to achieve this goal through three tenets:
1. The Hillcrest Art Studio fosters creative experimentation and provides a safe space to fail, adapt, and explore.
2. The student builds an art practice through development of foundational skills.
3. The student is able to analyze and speak about art using contextual knowledge (elements of art, principles of design, historical context).
The Artist Market is our annual fundraiser and showcase. It is a chance for students to collaboratively give back to their school community by creating and selling pieces to visitors. The event consists of grade level booths selling different products and pieces, and free art activities led by staff and volunteers. The event welcomes everyone in the community to enjoy a night celebrating creativity.
Hillcrest PDS hosts grade level art shows. Each show is designed to display the work of one or two grades at a time. This is a great time for family to view what the students have been working on.
The Hillcrest Art Club is an after-school club for our fifth graders only. It is a workshop style environment where students choose their own projects and media. They receive visits from local artists and creatives for mentorship.
